REMEMBER
1. Catch Problems Early!
2. If a group is not a problem within the first 5 holes they will generally keep the pace for the remainder of the day.
3. If a group is a problem within the first 5 holes they will generally have trouble keeping pace for the entire day.
4. Keep good notes, quoting times to slow groups is more effective than just saying "you are to slow!"
5. Never engage in an argument or shouting match with a customer. Follow the above mentioned procedure with stubborn groups.
6. Keep the entire day in mind when marshalling. Have sympathy for the afternoon players who would like to play a reasonably paced round.
7. Marshaling is a thankless job, you will never please everyone.
What Can I Do When The Course Is Moving Slow?
There will be times that the pace of the day is slow and you will have to take measures to speed it up, the following are some of your options.
1. Talk to the starter and make sure he/she is holding groups to there starting times.
2. Ask the starter to hold a group an extra 10 Minutes to clear any back ups on the first 3 holes.
3. Be aggressive with problem groups, move them early and often.
4. Make sure that groups behind the groups that you have moved are filling the gap. These groups may need to be warned or moved as well.
